Description |
The text for Requiescat (“May She Rest”) is from a poem of the same name by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1881. Wilde wrote Requiescat as an elegy after the death of his sister, Isolde, who died shortly before her tenth birthday. In the poem Wilde vividly limns the profound sense of loss he feels, and the musical setting is intended to amplify this sentiment. Beginning with a plaintive, unaccompanied viola solo, the music adds another dimension of expression to Wilde’s words. |
